Prenuptials, living together and coronavirus

In this section you'll find information and updates related to coronavirus that are relevant to prenuptials and living together.

The UK's response to coronavirus is changing regularly and often very quickly. While we'll continue to make every effort to keep this page up to date, there may be short periods where what you read here is not the latest information available. Where possible we've tried to provide links to official sources, so you can check the current situation.

Getting married or entering into a civil partnership

England

Marriages and civil partnerships are not allowed during periods of national lockdown, except in exceptional circumstances. During other periods, check the government guidance.

Wales

Socially distanced ceremonies can take place in approved venues. See GOV.wales for the latest information.

Scotland

Small ceremonies can take place. See the guidance from National Records of Scotland and the Scottish government for more information.

Northern Ireland

Marriages and civil partnerships can take place, but are subject to restrictions. See the nidirect website for more information. Detailed guidance, which is constantly being kept under review, on planning your day is available from the Executive Office.

Cancelled weddings and civil partnerships

See our Coronavirus (COVID-19) section for Complaints and disputes for information on your consumer rights if you've been left out of pocket by a venue after your event was cancelled.

Child access arrangements

For information on sticking to or changing child access arrangements during the pandemic, see our Coronavirus (COVID-19) section for Divorce, under the heading 'Child access arrangements'.
