Who is responsible for reporting?
Reports must only be made by the responsible person as defined under RIDDOR.
The responsible person is typically:
- The employer, when the incident involves an employee or worker
- Certain self-employed individuals, where the incident relates to their own work activities
- The person in control of the premises, if a reportable work-related accident or event occurs there
The report needs to be made to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) or your relevant local authority.
